BRFSS -- Introduction

Data were obtained from the CDC’s Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), which represented the only data available on certain topics. The BRFSS is conducted annually. Data from this source are based on samples of the population. Complete documentation on survey methodology, historic information, confidence intervals, and the survey questionnaire can be found at: http://www.cdc.gov/brfss/about.htm.

Because of the small sample sizes, no reliable estimates could be made at the county level. CDC does provide BRFSS data for a limited number of counties via their SMART: Selected Metropolitan/Micropolitan Statistical Area Risk Trends system. Data and details about the SMART system can be found at: http://apps.nccd.cdc.gov/brfss-smart/index.asp. BRFSS data at the county-level are not maintained on Quick Health Data Online.
